What is the best adhesive for bathroom wall panels?

The best adhesive for bathroom wall panels is a strong grab product that is suitable for PVC, humid rooms and the surface you are fitting to.

It needs to create a strong bond between the back of the panel and the wall. It also needs to remain reliable in a room where steam, heat and moisture are part of daily use.

Why does the right adhesive matter when fitting a panel?

A bathroom panel is only as secure as the bond behind it.

The visible side may look perfect, but if the bond is poor, the panel can move, lift or feel hollow. This is why adhesive choice matters.

A suitable product helps the panel sit securely against the wall and supports the sheet across a wide area rather than at only a few isolated points.

You also need to think about the room itself. A dry bedroom wall is very different from a shower area. Bathrooms experience steam, splashes and changing temperatures, so the adhesive must be suitable for the material, surface and environment.

Can you use sealant instead of adhesive?

Normal sanitary sealant should not be used as the main fixing product for a full size bathroom wall panel.

How do you prepare the surface before you install wall panels?

Good surface preparation gives the adhesive the best chance to bond properly.

• Remove loose paint, flaking material, old sealant and anything that may weaken the bond.
• Make sure the wall is stable, sound and free from dust and grease.
• Check existing tiles are firmly fixed before fitting panels over them.
• Follow the adhesive manufacturer guidance if the substrate needs any special preparation or primer.

Do not rely on the panel to hide a damaged or unstable wall. The surface behind the panel still needs to provide a secure base.

How do you apply adhesive to PVC wall panelling?

Dry fit the panel before applying adhesive. Check the height, width, cuts, pipes and corners first so you know the sheet fits correctly.

   Place the panel against the wall and complete any cutting or adjustment before adhesive is applied.

2. Apply the adhesive

How much adhesive do you need per panel?
